I had never been told by my parents that certain forms of 'work' were not for girls or women. Infact, I had done most of the chores boys usually do around the house-like changing bulbs,painting,minor electical repairs,shopping,paying bills,running errands etc. To many of you, this may seem normal,but, I was brought up in a small town where 6 p.m. was curfew time in college,half the 'Nagar' or locality seemed like an extended family and girls in the neighbourhood knew which new dress I wore on which day to college😅. In a town like Bhubaneswar,most girls were to 'have' a 'degree',i.e. to be a graduate atleast. This rendered them suitable for marriage! The other lot included girls like me,who studied for the love of it. Graduation-the degree gave me a solid foundation for my future.
